Chairman’s report:
‘As a sport’s facility which is available to the wider community, Whitby Wheelers Cycling Club continues to be an asset to the Whitby area and beyond.

The ‘new golden age’ has brought cycling out of the doldrums of the 1980’s and to a respectability as a sport which has been unknown for several decades.

This recent upsurge and consequent popularity as a spectator sport has resulted in cyclists, at one time would have been club riders, who are now paid and can earn some of their salary from racing. In spite of this there are several riders who are never the less happy to be associated with Whitby Wheelers and ride with the club when the opportunity allows,. I think this reflects well on the kind of people which the membership of Whitby Wheelers are.

A group of the membership have designed and had manufactured new club kit. Their efforts are a credit to themselves and they have unselfishly served the club a commendable service.

Not to be missed is that there is the energy amongst members to join the annual trip to Majorca, now in its 10th Year. The outward appearance of the club is that of being active and participative, this is inspirational in attracting new members who wish to be part of this.

various members race in an amateur capacity enjoying the unique competition which is the sport of cycle racing and representing their club in the club colours.Others are regular contributors to many of the sportives in the North of England and clearly demonstrating to the cycling fraternity that we are well and truly an active part of the current cycling scene.

The cyclo cross event in January which is organised by Ian Brown and supported by members on both sides of the mud is yet another testament to the strength and vitality of the club.

I am certain that everyone gathered here tonight will have no hesitation in agreeing that Whitby Wheelers continues to be a cycling club for members to be proud of and long may it be so’.
